Arla Foods announces that with immediate effect it will commit to purchase RTRS (Round Table on Responsible Soy) certificates to cover 100% of the soy used in cow feed by its farmers across Europe. This is part of the dairy cooperative’s on-going commitment to support sustainable soy production.

Today Arla Foods reports its 2013 results announcing its highest Performance Price ever in its history and an improved balance sheet. This is as a result of a strong European business and rapid growth in its growth markets outside the EU – at a time when Arla’s most important ingredient, milk, has increased in value worldwide.

Arla Foods UK is supporting the business requirements of the Arla Foods amba cooperative by processing German concentrated skimmed milk at Westbury, for up to a three-month period, from today.

Arla is investing £243 million to expand global production, and focus on the production of profitable export products, for the cooperative’s strategic growth markets outside the EU.

Further to last week’s announcement of a one eurocent increase in the Arla Foods amba milk price, the Arla Milk Link and Arla Milk Cooperative boards confirm that this equates to a 0.74ppl increase for the 2,800 British owners of Arla Foods amba, from 3 February 2014.

Arla Foods amba is increasing its on-account milk price to its 13,500 global farmer owners, of which 2,800 are British dairy farmers.

The amount of drinking milk that Arla will produce in 2014 would be enough to potentially serve 3.5 milk glasses for every person on the planet.

Arla Foods amba has almost doubled the number of British farmer owners as a further 1,300 take up the offer of becoming co-owners of Europe’s largest dairy cooperative and looks to secure a further 300 million litres of owner milk.

When Arla Foods begins selling skimmed milk powder, processed at Westbury Dairies, in Wiltshire, on the Global Dairy Trade auction, from 17 December, it will be the first time that a British dairy product has entered the auction.
