The humble staple of most lunchtime diets, the cheese sandwich was deemed as the best British butty in surveys by both the Federation of Bakers and the British Sandwich Association. Anchor research also support this - a quarter (27 per cent) of those surveyed about their lunchtime eating habits stated that cheese was their favourite sandwich filling.

However, how much you enjoy your cheese sarnie and how perfect it tastes all depends on the thickness of the cheese that you use.

Research released by Dr Len Fisher at the University of Bristol recently revealed that to ensure optimum cheesiness when making a cheese sandwich, cheddar should always be 2.8mm thick.

Now, rather than getting out your ruler and measuring a block of Cheddar and then trying to cut a slice at the perfect thickness, you can simply ensure a brilliant butty by using pre-prepared slices of Anchor Extra Mature or Mature Cheddar cheese.

Available in packs of 10-12 slices, each slice is the ideal 2.8mm thickness to ensure a super satisfactory sandwich.

Dr Fisher also recommends that a light spreading of butter should also be used to aid the aromas of the cheese to stay on the tongue.

Not only is Anchor Cheddar convenient for sandwiches but it is also made from the milk of free-range cows, which only graze on fresh grass the whole year round, ensuring natural cheddar with a fuller flavour.
