Arla is targeting a 500 million litre increase in its raw milk supply by 2015 and is well on track to deliver this.
The company announced its recruitment plan in February 2012 and expects to purchase an additional 100 million litres, from new members, by January 2013.
“We have made a successful start and anticipate that the launch of our milk sourcing model yesterday will prove attractive to potential new members,” said Ash Amirahmadi, Arla’s head of milk procurement.
Jonathan Ovens, AFMP chairman, said: “As the launch of the new milk sourcing model demonstrates, Arla is a processor in which farmers can have confidence, knowing that they not only have a secure home for every litre of milk they produce, but that their processor is genuinely committed to working with a true cooperative mindset.”
Jonathan added that a further attraction of joining AFMP is the prospect of the Partnership achieving full membership of Arla Foods amba. “This is by no means a done deal but we are on an exciting journey and will be entering into discussion with Arla Foods amba this autumn.”
Arla is keen to engage with prospective suppliers to discuss opportunities for joining AFMP, said Ash: “Representatives of both AFMP and Arla will be delighted to welcome dairy farmers to join them on their stand at the Dairy Event in order to share their plans.”
