A maize maze which is being sponsored for the second year running by CRAVENDALE fresh milk was opened to the general public following a test run by local school pupils and senior Leeds Rhino's players rugby players recently.

The youngsters accompanied by Ronnie the Rhino - mascot to Leeds Rhinos Rugby League team - and senior Leeds Rhinos academy players Scott Murrell and Lee Smith were given a sneak preview of the nine ft tall maze which has been created at Jowett House Farm in Cawthorne, near Barnsley.

The two-mile long puzzle should take an estimated 90 minutes to complete and will even serve its purpose once the final visitors have wended their way through it at the end of September.

The maize will be cut down and used to feed Jowett Farm's 140-strong herd of dairy cows. The Jowett family currently supply to Arla Foods through the Arla Foods Milk Partnership.

It's likely that more than 15,000 visitors will visit the farm over the course of the summer and they'll be able to take part in several, traditional games including noughts and crosses and hoopla, as well as try out the maize.

Stuart Ibberson, CRAVENDALE brand manager, said: "We're pleased to sponsor the Maize Maze again this year as it has proved really popular with children, providing not only a great day out for the whole family but also a fantastic way to encourage children to be active this summer and enjoy the outdoors."

The maze is open daily between 10am and 6pm until September 5 and then at weekends only until the end of September.

Adults will be charged £3.50 if they take up the challenge of completing the maze while the admission price for children and OAPs is £2.50. Alternatively, family tickets cost £12.00.
