Cravendale welcomes new study into link between dairy and weight loss
Today, April 16th 2004, the US Journal Obesity Research has published the results of a study of 'Calcium and Dairy Acceleration of Weight and fat Loss during Energy Restriction in Obese Adults' by Dr Michael Zemel and his colleagues.
Results indicate that those who included three portions of dairy products (milk, yogurt and cheese) as part of a calorie-controlled diet lost more weight and fat than those who consumed one portion of dairy a day or less
According to Cravendale, the UK's leading fresh milk brand, the results underline the key role which milk plays in the modern diet: "In the UK there is a common belief that to lose weight involves missing out on milk, a staple ingredient in most people's diets" said Stuart Ibberson, Cravendale brand manager.
"Milk is an important part of a healthy, balanced diet because it is such a good provider of calcium, protein, vitamins and a range of minerals. Simply switching to semi-skimmed or skimmed milk can reduce your fat intake while still giving the same amount of nutrients as whole milk.
"Maintaining a reduced fat, balanced diet combined with regular physical activity is a great, realistic way to control your weight".
The good news is that using Cravendale fresh skimmed or semi-skimmed milk will not only help a weight control programme but means you won't lose any taste - as is often the case with other milk brands - because the unique way the milk is finely filtered means that it tastes purer and creamier than regular milk.
