Express milkman is 2004 Milkman of the Year
Crime fighting Express Dairies milkman Sean Garvey has won the title of 2004 milkman of the year at a special award ceremony hosted by Dairy Industry Association Ltd to acknowledge excellence.
Sean proved he is cream of the crop seeing off stiff competition from four other milkman to take the top title and receive the £1000 prize money. Sean picked up the award for delivering outstanding service and community spirit along with the daily pintas in Shipley, West Yorkshire, where he has built a bond of trust and respect over the last five years. Sean's good work goes above and beyond the call of duty and he recently did a bungee jump for charity, sponsored by his customers.
He has paid for lockable bottle cages for customers following thefts of milk and devised bird-proof plastic lids to foil the proverbial "early bird" from breaking the sealed milk tops. He even produces his own newsletters and a leaflet called Pass it On highlighting security issues for his elderly customers.
His service doesn't stop at dairy products, Sean also delivers water, eggs, potatoes, yogurts and organic vegetables.
Express Dairies channel marketing manager, Tracey Wilson, said: "This is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution that our milkmen make to the community. They provide a unique service, often going well beyond the call of duty, and they are an integral part of a great British tradition."
