Success for Arla at World Cheese Awards
H T Webb, Arla's speciality cheese company, once again proved it is the UK market leader after scooping 39 trophies at the recent World Cheese Awards held in London.
The event attracted over 1,500 international entries and Arla's impressive awards haul comprised 17 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze medals.
One of its cheeses, Isigny-ste-Mère's unpasteurised AOC Camembert also picked up the prestigious accolades of Best French, Best Overseas and Supreme Champion, which says Jerome Pierson, product manager Isigny-ste-Mere says is a huge success.
"Arla is in partnership with Isigny-ste-Mère, a French company, and we actively sells its cheeses to retailers in the UK. The success we've had at the awards shows there is a big opportunity for speciality cheese," added Jerome.
The World Cheese Awards formed part of the Speciality and Fine Food Fair held at London's Olympia and a dedicated cheese area formed part of the three-day exhibition, giving buyers and retailers the opportunity to taste and evaluate each cheese that was entered into the awards.
"We have done exceptionally well and are streets ahead of our key competitors," said Lisa Pellatt, product manager at H T Webb.
"We did even better than last year when we won 28 prizes from a greater number of entries," she added.
The trophies will be competing for space in the display cabinet at H T Webb, which over the last two months saw a further 18 awards added to its collection from the Nantwich International Cheese Show and the Great Yorkshire Show.
