Arla Foods' state of the art dairy located at Aylesbury welcomed BBC Breakfast this week, to learn how the dairy cooperative is using cutting-edge production methods to maximise the output of milk for its 12,500 owners, circa 3,000 of whom are British.

Frampton farmer owner George Holmes welcomed invited guests, including Simon Hoare, MP for North Dorset, to his farm. The event was aimed at driving a greater understanding of the day-to-day role of an Arla dairy farmer and spreading a greater knowledge of the farmer-owned principles of Arla.

Globally declining milk prices impacted Arla Foods and the entire dairy industry in the first half of 2015, creating a tough situation for Arla’s farmer-owners. Arla has managed to navigate through the hard-pressed world market relatively well by growing brand volumes and keeping a tight grip on costs.

Arla continues its expansion in Africa through two new joint-ventures in Nigeria and Senegal. Two strong local partners, Tolaram in Nigeria and Attieh Group in Senegal, will provide the distribution backbone that will help Arla grow and develop its business in West Africa.

Following a period of milk price reductions, the Arla Foods amba on-account price will remain unchanged for September 2015 for its 13,500 owners, including 3,000 from the UK.

Arla Foods UK has today confirmed that Asda’s increased price that it pays for milk, which came into effect this morning, will be shared directly with its farmer owners including 3,000 in the UK. The retailer’s commitment to carry Arla’s new farmer-owned marque from the autumn on all of its own label fresh liquid milk along with new British cheddar labelling is also welcomed by Arla.

The Arla Foods amba on-account price will reduce by one eurocent per kg (0.8 pence when applied to the UK standard litre), with effect from 3 August 2015, taking the standard litre price to 23.01 pence.
